Terrel Shields, is a Certified General appraiser, specializes in farms and Mineral and Oil and gas valuations for Estate planning and investments. Additionally, His experience includes geotechnical consulting, geological and exploration geology, mudlogging, wellsite geology, and for the past decade applying knowledge gained as a certified appraiser to create USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice) compliant reports for technical and legal uses.

Shields has worked the Arkoma Basin, Mississippi Embayment, Mid-Continent, Rocky Mountains, Overthrust, East Texas, Ark-La-Tex, and Southwest, including the Permian, Tularosa, San Juan, Paradox, Piceance, Sand Wash, Hugoton, and Anadarko Basins since 1973.

After completing College in 1972, Terrel worked with Cooper Communities of Bella Vista in the Engineering Department doing flood routing, soils studies and mapping; then for McClelland Consulting Engineers, ESCOMLAB [Environmental and Construction Materials Lab] where he ran perk tests, concrete and soils testing and inspection. Switching to the Petroleum after 2 years of graduate school, he was a hydrocarbon engineer, consulted and wellsit from West Virginia to Wyoming; first, with Analytical Logging of Shreveport; then Exploration Services Inc. of Midland; and, Rocky Mountain Geo-engineering (now a division of Pason) in Grand Junction, CO before starting his own company in 1980. When the RTC began regulating banks, Terrel examined leases and mineral rights being held by banks, mainly in Oklahoma, and provided advice on leases that were used to secure loans. As the industry went into a low ebb, Shields switched to real estate appraiser specializing in rural property appraisal.

After years of predominately working rural and farm property, Terrel expanded his practice to include more geology / petroleum and less emphasis on residential appraising. Recently, Shields Valuation Surveys, Inc. has downsized to a one man office with an assistant who provides support as needed.
